Social context of oil spills: Impact, response, traces. How the social context can improve future oil spill recovery systems. When a crisis happens, the entire society focuses on the particular disaster and the public is willing to put all the efforts on the recovery. Everyday media reports, volunteers are getting involved, governments and corporations invest money to restore, trying a variety of recovery systems. The society as a whole seems to become like a wounded vulnerable giant. The open question is : despite of all the efforts made, why is our society not able to behave as a whole, cooperating to prevent from so many crisis to happen? Cant our aspirations reflect our daily lives? We may wonder if the reason is closer technology or our social structures. We are setting up a design system that integrates the social and technological realms. |
